Budget with a spending limit and period

A budget has a spending limit, currency, categories, and period. Tetri uses transactions in those categories to calculate spending, remaining amount, and pace. Recurring payments and rollover can be included separately.

Budget name

The name should describe the spending covered by the limit, such as "Groceries" or "Entertainment." The icon and color only help identify the budget in the list.

Budget amount and currency

The limit is the maximum amount to spend during the selected period. Transactions in other currencies are converted into the budget currency using the rate for their date.

Expense categories

Only transactions in the selected categories count toward the budget. Put several categories in one budget only when they share one spending limit.

Recurring expenses in the budget

When recurring payments are included, matching scheduled expenses count inside this limit and are not added to the plan again. Turn this off for a budget that covers only flexible day-to-day spending.

Budget period

A budget period can be a week, month, year, or custom date range. A custom range works for a trip or project with known start and end dates.

Budget pacing

Pacing shows how much of the limit should remain on the current date. Even pacing works for day-to-day spending, while fixed bills can be tracked on their scheduled dates.

Rollover of unused amount or overspending

Reset starts every period with the full limit. Accumulate adds unused money to the next period. Deficit-only reduces the next limit by the amount overspent.

Before saving

Before saving, check the limit, currency, categories, period, recurring-payment setting, and rollover rule. You can edit them later if the spending plan changes.
